First stable changes in citations show up after 3 to 6 months. Perplexity reacts fastest, ChatGPT slowest. The off-site work takes the longest, because first you have to earn mentions on other people's sites.

GEO is about getting AI models to cite your business in their answers, while SEO is about your position in classic Google results. They share foundations, but AI often pulls from sources off your own site: directories, reviews, mentions. Good SEO helps, but on its own it is not enough for ChatGPT or Perplexity to recommend you.
